The most memorable part of the assembly was the participation of the Chinese students themselves! They gave two spectacular performances, a solo dance & group song, which were enjoyed immensely by the students, with applaudable courage and enthusiasm. It was a true delight to eyes to watch the dance and song performances by Chinese students.

It was a great opportunity for Jmians to spread the heartfelt message of international peace & unity, a world unity pledge was shared spreading the vibes of tranquility. The assembly came to an end with the tribute to both the nations by rendering the national anthems of India and China.

During the school visit, the expressions of amazement and curiosity revealed that they were highly impressed by the activities being held in the classes, Montessori to XII, library, activity rooms & labs. The Chinese delegation appreciated the amplitude of learning, teaching methodologies, innovative ways of teaching, & overall personality development and confidence in children.

JANLOKPAL, CORRUPTION & PROJECTS

$

Vijay K. Saluja

Last two years in India have been fairly historic & game-changing!?This has been the period of intense activity by the members of the Civil-Society? Some of the prominent among these were/are : Anna Hazare, Baba Ramdev, Arvind Kejriwal & their associates. Noble agendas for all these activists have been to find ways, to arrest growing corruption in the country, bringing back black-money stashed abroad by some of the prominent Indiansin positions of authority, of various ilks, bringing accountability & transparency in the governance so that the ordinary citizens[aam-aadmi]did not run from pillar to post while dealing with the various rungs of the legislature,executive------------,to name a few of the items in their agenda.

Many methods-agitations, hunger-strikes, dharnas, public discourses etc etc, were adopted by the different anti-corruption crusaders to achieve their self-proclaimed objectives.Media including the digital-media came very handy in spreading far & wide, their messages.

The authorities for the reasons best known to them instead of giving the positive & well-needed support for the right causes transformed themselves into the other party ie you [activists] & me [govt].Result –acrobatic steps of every kind, which resulted in widening the chasm!

Finally, after lot of dilly-dallying, Jan Lokpal bill-perceived by many as the panacea for arresting & removing corruption, has been passed!

Differences arose, too.

Aam Aadmi Party[AAP}-the newly formed political outfit led by Arvind Kejriwal-an earlier close associate of Anna Hazare expressed his concerns about the various provisions in the passed Jan Lokpal bill & felt/is feeling, that the `Bill` would not be adequate to banish deep-rooted corruption.

The question which comes to my mind is ----------------------

Does passing of the JLP bill means, now, exit of the corruption from our nation?

There were/are already so many govt agencies-CBI, CVC, Vigilance Departments in each govt organizations whose main mandate was/ is to inter-alia curb corruption. Besides, all the officers of the Centre, State & Local Govt, who as per the laid down Conduct Rules of the Govt have to be honest, persons of integrity & take at all times, suitable steps to prevent corruption in their respective departments/organizations, then

What have they been doing all these years?

Why the Presidents of India, Prime Ministers, Governors, Ministers, senior bureaucrats, judiciary who have sufficient powers, did not take suo-moto actions or other steps, to check the growing corruption al-around in the system?

Have they also been waiting for the Jan Lok Pal?If so,why?

How will the newly appointed Jan Lokpal be able to arrest the corruption?

Where will the person of that stature, unwavering integrity,& with sterling qualities come from?In case ,he is found[which I hope, we may get, as there are many tall persons of integrity & good performance, too]then,

He will have to work along with hundreds of his staff-members.Where will they come from? How will they be different from the present staff of the various vigilance organizations?

These are some of the many many moot-points.

Can some one educate me on these concerns?

Corruption & unethical practices have affected very badly the engineering/infrastrucure projects of the country, as we all know. Some of the concerned areas to my mind, are- delay in decision making, improper monitoring, hardly any/minimal use of available IT tools[which I will elaborate, in another article],lack of needed skills, motivation, commitment, passion for the same, etc etc.

Won`t sizable no of projects get more delayed as, to my mind, there could be some paralysis in some quarters in the decision making because of the fear of Jan Lokpal? Unless the skills of the govt officers are as well, upgraded on sustainable basis & strong dose of values & ethics is also inducted in/thru the training programs .

It is high time we, start rebuilding our society on ethical foundations.

For that, many steps are needed. Passing of Jan Lokpal Bill[though very good step] is not enough, to my mind, to arrest the menace of corruption in Engg/City, PROJECTS, also.

( Mr. Vijay K. Saluja is a Director of Giraffe Heroes India Program & winner of national & international award for his contribution to the society for his honesty & writing skill, Senior Fellow, Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi, Ex President, IIT Delhi Alumni Association Ex Chief Engineer[civil]-NDMC, )

ACHIEVEMENTS OF N.K.BAGRODIA PUBLIC SCHOOL, DWARKA

A school built in the pristine setting of Dwarka has its past steeped in twelve years of glorious achievement. Though the school is in its juvenile state and aspires to become one of the best schools of Delhi, yet it has already achieved epochal milestones in arena of academic, games and co-curricular activities.

N.K. Bagrodia has been ranked in 56th place on the basis of Q1 school average in CBSE results and is at 83rdranked on all India level out of 725 short listed schools of the country. So indeed it is a matter of great pride for NKBPS, Dwarka that in short spell of time it has carved a niche for itself. School keeping pace with latest tools and technology of teaching has redefined its pedagogy by using smart boards (Edu Comp) in class room teaching. Amongst various remarkable achievement of the school it was another proud moment for the school when it was felicitated with theEco-Friendly School Award by the Indian Institute of Ecology. Another benchmark was created by NKBPS Dwarka when one of the class 9th student secured 100% marks in French Olympiad conducted by ‘’education on beyond ‘by embassy of France where she was rewarded with coveted prize of 10 days trip to France by ambassador of France.

School has also taken a stride towards creating a better India by conducting a series of community reach program under the campaign volunteer for a better India which was a great venture which has generated wonderful feeling and experience in the students of looking at entire humanity as one family. PREPARING TINY TOTS FOR PLAY SCHOOL ADMISSION

$

“Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future”. – John F. Kennedy

Children are unique and divine gifts of God. They are lovable and innocent angels. They are full of smiles when they receive love and appreciation. When infants grow, they learn about the basic virtues in life from their mothers, while on mothers’ laps, and at mothers’ feet. The father also plays his role in giving moral support and emotional security to the child and defends their child from the external bad influences and threats. Both parents are thus sources of encouragement and support to the child, at home. Thus, values are imbibed by the tiny tots at home. The tiny tots learn by example and standards set by parents at home. Children give unconditional love. They truly symbolize Lord Krishna. In fact, there is a Krishna in every child. Children’s qualities such as inner purity, simplicity, innocence and love and a sense of belonging distinguish their behaviour from adults.

The transition from a home environment to a school surrounding is imperative for the child. Education in India has become so competitive that nowadays it is common for children at the age of three years to be put in play school. Its advantages are multi-fold:

* The child learns to stay for a few hours away from parents and loved ones. In turn, parents find extra time to attend to other work.

* The child learns to mingle with other children and gains a new sense of belonging with friends of the same age in play school.

* The child learns to share toys with other children. This is especially very beneficial for a child with no siblings.

* A child is generally highly energetic and very fidgety and gets distracted easily. At play school, the child is trained to acquire and inculcates a longer time span of attention.

Useful Tips for Parents to Prepare their Children for Admission to Play School

1. Children must be able to wish and say their names to the interviewers.
2. They must know and be able to recite simple nursery rhymes, say letters of the English alphabet from A to Z and numbers say up to 20.
3. They must be able to identify colours, simple fruits and vegetables, and basic shapes like circle and square.
4. Children may be asked to identify common vehicles like car, bus, helicopter, aeroplane, ship, and common animals like elephant, dog, cat, monkey, horse, etc.

5. The child may be interviewed in front of the parents in schools. Parents should not prompt the child to answer any question. Doing this might disqualify the child for admission.

6. Teach your child not to interrupt when you are speaking and await their turn to speak.

7. Teach a child to say thank you by having them hear you say it. No matter how young they are, never forget to say thank you to them each time they give you something, even if it is their bottle. Children copy what they see and hear so make it a point to always use those words.

8. Teach them not to touch things that are on tables, either in your home or when visiting. Explain that they can look, but not touch!

9. Teach your child to be polite and that it is not proper to point or to stare at others who might be of a different religion or colour.

10. Children should be dressed neatly and must be trained in matters regarding personal hygiene. For example, children must use their own handkerchief. Parents must avoid using their handkerchief to wipe their child’s nose.

At home, while preparing the child for the above questions, the parents would do well to praise the child adequately for any correct answer so that it serves as a motivation for the child. However, the parents must also desist from scolding or beating the child in order to get the right answer.

The personality of the child also plays a significant role in the interview. Some children, being bold, answer very confidently; while others may be tongue-tied; still other children may show no interest in answering the questions. Efforts must be made by parents to identify the second and third types of children and remedial measures must be taken by parents by their behaviour and attitude towards their children, to set this right much before hand.

Because of the rat race, admission to a good school is a very important task for the parents and many of them take it as a burden in addition to their professional duties and household work. It must be remembered that a good school facilitates character building and inculcating ethical conduct, in addition to providing quality education.

Education is not merely teaching of subjects or imparting knowledge and ability related with co-curricular activities but it is a lifelong attitude of living life well. It is about being happy, it is about spreading goodwill and happiness, it is about understanding our worth, it is about an attitude of knowing that more could be learnt, yet actualizing the many potentials that one is endowed with.

Education is also about creating new potentials, when I say this, I feel that it is the best definition as mankind has evolved so fast because of this aspect of learning. Knowledge seeks more knowledge. Thus a good school should prepare children and their teachers to become lifelong learners knowing 'how to learn'.

What role do a good infrastructure for curricula transaction including music, dance, sports play? A lot, but these are just means to an end. We all want our children to be ready for the role that they will be playing in society.

We must realize that promoting and nurturing life skills, attitudes and values are the foremost aims of any educational endeavour. Adults have to be role models of any preaching. A child initially mirrors the behaviour of grown ups. Then the stage comes, when he learns to discern the right from the wrong. This is a beautiful phase, which if nurtured well, produces thinkers and doers, that the world seeks. All children go through this phase. We have to be ready to accept and change ourselves when our children reach this stage. "A child is the father of nation". This adage will come true if we listen to our children at this time and are ready to grow yet once again.

Thus life is actually a 'yearning for life'. Let us all become lifelong learners and understand this.

Any school that promotes a love for learning is the place for your ward to be in. Any school that involves parents in this process is the right one.

Happy schooling, joyful, stress free environment is what we all aspire for and should provide too.

Recalling old currency-notes: A step in right direction desired to be taken after every five years

It refers to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recalling old currency-notes issued before the year 2005 on which year of print was not mentioned. Step is a welcome one not only to check large fake currency in the system, but also to curb unaccounted money. RBI should take some similar step after every five years, simultaneously by changing design and colour of currency after every five years.

Since notes of denominations of rupees one, two and five are no longer being printed, RBI should issue an altogether new series of currency in smaller size also to reduce cost of printing currency. Sizes of currency-notes were last time reduced about half-a-century back when notes of rupees one and two were quite common in circulation.
