To begin the drive, children were quizzed about the kinds of trees which are planted in the vicinity. Children were enthused about the knowledge pertaining to flora, as imparted by Captain S.S Mann, a resident of the colony and member of Sukh Dukh Ke Saathi Sanstha.
In the tree plantation drive thirty five ficus panda – member of the fig family; ten withania somnifera commonly known as “ashwagandha” – a powerful and one of the oldest medicinal plants; and sixteen hibiscus rosa or “gudhal” – used to make offerings in temples were planted by all of twelve children from the colony. Enthused by this programme, children then collected all kinds of waste lying around the plants to dispose them.
